Abstract / Description

Date fruits (Phoenix dactylifera L.) are widely recognized as high-nutrient foods containing simple carbohydrates, dietary fiber, vitamins, minerals, and various bioactive compounds such as polyphenols, carotenoids, and tannins. However, their potential as functional foods in supporting digestive health requires further scientific discussion. This study aims to analyze the nutritional composition and bioactive compounds of date fruits and evaluate their role in maintaining digestive health. A literature review approach was used to analyze and combine relevant scientific sources on the nutritional profile and physiological effects of date fruits. The findings indicate that the soluble fiber in date fruits improves intestinal motility, prevents constipation, and modulates gut microbiota. In addition, bioactive compounds may enhance antioxidant activity and support gastrointestinal function. In conclusion, date fruits have significant potential as a natural functional food ingredient that supports digestive health and can be further developed into innovative functional food products.
