Abstract / Description

The cold chain industry is undergoing a substantial transformation with the integration of Internet of Things (IoT) technologies. As the global demand for the safe storage and transportation of temperature-sensitive goods continues to rise, maintaining optimal environmental conditions throughout the supply chain remains a persistent challenge. Traditional methods have often been inefficient, costly, and prone to human error. IoT-enabled solutions are now offering a paradigm shift by enabling real-time monitoring, data-driven decision-making, and greater operational visibility. These advancements are redefining best practices in cold chain logistics, presenting new opportunities to enhance efficiency, reduce losses, and ensure product integrity across diverse sectors, including food, pharmaceuticals, and biotechnology. This chapter explores the evolving role of IoT in the cold chain ecosystem, its technological components, benefits, implementation challenges, and future scope, providing a comprehensive overview for researchers, industry professionals, and policymakers.
