Abstract / Description

The Dairy Value Chain Development Programme (DVCDP) (2017–2023) aimed to improve rural livelihoods and food security in Uzbekistan by enhancing cattle productivity and access to dairy markets. The programme ran from 2017-2023 and provided specialized training to over 19,000 small-scale farmers, with a focus on providing livelihood opportunities to women, including livestock management, business skills and value chain development. It also facilitated access to credit for 548 dairy farms, processors and input suppliers through commercial banks, supporting profitable investments across the sector. By combining capacity building, financial support and strong coordination, DVCDP worked to modernize the dairy value chain and strengthen its role in rural development. An impact assessment of DVCDP was conducted in 2023. Because the vast majority of the project financing was directed towards this credit line beneficiaries, the impact estimates are discussed for the entire sample and separately for this component.
