Abstract / Description
The Project for Market and Pasture Management Development (PMPMD) aimed to reduce poverty and improve the livelihoods of nomadic herders and rural households in Mongolia, primarily by strengthening capacity and pasture management. Initially implemented from 2011–2016, it was extended through additional financing from 2018–2023. The project was structured around two core components: market development and pasture management. The market development component focused on supporting cooperatives and women’s groups through business training, cooperative development, and infrastructure investment. The pasture management component strengthened the resilience of herder groups through community-based rangeland planning, capacity building in animal husbandry and risk management, and investments in public infrastructure such as wells and storage facilities. This impact assessment was conducted in 2024 using a quasi-experimental ex-post approach, drawing on primary data collected through a household survey of herder households.
