Abstract / Description

Advances in digital transformation, Industry 4.0, and big data technologies are fundamentally changing the competitive landscape in which businesses operate and reshaping traditional decision-making processes. Artificial intelligence, which lies at the heart of this technological transformation, not only automates business processes but also elevates them to a strategic level through its high data processing speed, continuous learning capabilities, and advanced predictive capabilities. Management accounting, which lies at the heart of businesses’ financial and strategic data flows, is significantly affected by this transformation. Artificial intelligence technologies are helping management accounting evolve beyond its traditional functions of data collection, processing, and reporting toward a more analytical and predictive framework. This transformation is opening up new possibilities in various management accounting practices, such as cost management, performance evaluation, financial forecasting, and the analysis of resource utilization. In particular, artificial intelligence’s advanced analytical capabilities enable managers to assess the company’s current situation more comprehensively and respond more quickly to changing conditions. Thus, the role of management accounting within the organization is evolving into a more active structure that goes beyond the presentation of financial information regarding past periods to generate forward-looking information and support strategic decision-making processes. The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of artificial intelligence technologies on management accounting and decision-making processes. The integration of artificial intelligence technologies into management accounting is driving transformation in various application areas, such as cost management, performance evaluation, and financial forecasting. To make effective use of artificial intelligence technologies, it is necessary to take into account factors such as data quality, data security and privacy, technological infrastructure, ethical principles, organizational conditions, and employees’ digital competencies. In addition, it is evident that artificial intelligence has not completely replaced human expertise in management accounting; human expertise remains important, particularly in activities that require professional judgment, interpretation, and strategic decision-making. For this reason, artificial intelligence is viewed not as a technology that replaces management accountants, but as a complementary tool that supports their analytical and strategic roles. In conclusion, the integration of artificial intelligence into management accounting can help businesses use data more effectively, support decision-making processes, and strengthen the strategic role of management accounting. In future research, it will be important to determine how management accounting tasks can be shared between humans and artificial intelligence, and in which tasks professional expertise and judgment will remain essential.
