Abstract / Description
Abstract Infectious disease surveillance is essential for ensuring public health safety. Genomic surveillance, in particular, has played a key role in understanding the dynamics of outbreaks and epidemics. With climate change influencing the transmission patterns of vector-borne diseases, increased surveillance of arthropod-borne viruses (arboviruses) has become an urgent priority. The Climate Amplified Diseases and Epidemics (CLIMADE) consortium was established to address the growing burden of emerging arbovirus outbreaks by strengthening genomic surveillance capacity through data reporting and visualization platforms. However, genomic surveillance data is often complex and difficult for non-specialists to interpret. To address this, we present the CLIMADE dashboard, a genomic epidemiology dashboard showcasing genomic data in near-real time for the three most medically relevant arboviruses: Dengue (DENV), Chikungunya (CHIKV), and Zika (ZIKV) viruses. The dashboard is powered by the Pathotrack initiative, which aggregates genomic and visualization applications in one platform. Genomic metadata is sourced from NCBI’s GenBank through an API, and sequences are analyzed using Nextclade for accurate genetic variant classification. Processed metadata is stored in an internal MySQL database and presented through interactive visualizations with advanced filters. The CLIMADE dashboard enables timely access to critical information, enhancing the ability of public health stakeholders, policymakers, and decision-makers to anticipate and respond to arboviral threats.
